Hartley Resourcing

Who are we?

Andrew Hartley

After graduating from Surrey University, I joined one of the top national recruitment agencies. Those first 10 years covered a variety of roles, the final 5 of which were as Regional Director for the South, running 13 busy recruitment offices. Armed with this experience I took the opportunity to start an independent agency with the aim of setting new standards in Southampton and the surrounding area. I am very proud that since opening in 2007 we have built up many fantastic relationships with local employers and candidates and have fast become Southampton's busiest agency - being awarded the Best Independent Recruitment Agency in Hampshire for the last 2 years in a row have have been a great acknowledgment of the team's hard work over the last 12 years! Most of my time out of work is spent with my 6 and 4 year old who are a source of constant fun. In any spare time I love to get outdoors and set crazy challenges for myself. 2019's challenge is my proudest to date, cycling 800 miles in a week as wingman to Francis Benali in his 7 Ironman Triathlons in 7 days IronFran challenge. Being a part of #Teamfran was a unique experience and led by Fran we achieved the goal of raising £1m for Cancer Research UK.

I graduated in Sports Science, with all the good intentions of a career in sport.  However, I realised I was never going to be a World Champion, so needed to find a proper job!  After working for a travel company and an office equipment reseller, I walked into a recruitment agency, loved what I saw and the rest is history!  I spent 9 fantastic years working for a national agency and made it into the top 10 consultants.  I was then promoted to run my own branch which I took from strength to strength for 3 years (the highlight was personally being nominated as account manager of the year by a major national client!).  In December 2007 I jumped at the chance to join Andrew with his venture and am really proud to be part of such an exciting company.  I now work part-time as I have two little girls, so most of my spare time is spent chasing after them!  I am very sociable and enjoy sport, especially watching rugby.  I also go to the gym to try to counteract my love of food.

My working career started with a local construction company where I undertook numerous roles.  I also completed a City and Guilds qualification in bricklaying and even spent 2 years working in France.  After 6 years with the company I felt as though I needed a new challenge in a new business sector, so I joined one of Europe’s leading insurance companies in their claims department.  After several years and a couple of promotions within the company I left that role to join one of the UK’s largest independent insurance brokers within customer service.  During this time I became Cert CII qualified and developed my passion for customer services and managing customer relationships.  I met Andrew through a family friend and he recommended a career within recruitment, so when the opportunity arose 7 years ago to join the team it was an easy decision to make.  I am really enjoying the challenges of recruitment and the satisfaction of helping people find new jobs and companies the right staff.  In my spare time I love playing football and generally keeping fit.

I graduated University in 2015 with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I began working within events, first in the education sector before moving into hospitality, both of which I loved. Unfortunately the unsocial hours became too unsocial for me and I thought it was about time I got myself a Monday-Friday job! Through my job search I met Andrew who along with the whole team took me under their collective wing two years ago and I have gained lots of recruitment experience in that short time. When I’m not in the office I like to go out horse riding and taking part in performances with my theatre group.

After completing my degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education I then chose to follow my passion for helping others grow and learn by studying a PGCE in Education and became a teacher. I learnt a great deal about people as a teacher both young and old and thoroughly enjoyed communicating with such a varied mix of people. I found I gained great satisfaction from helping others to succeed and grow across all ages, not just the children within my class, but also by supporting my colleagues. I left teaching to fulfil another passion of mine, travel and after living and working in Sydney I returned to the UK with a desire to use my passion for people in a commercial setting. After finding Andrew and the team in my job search, it became clear that I could use many of my skills learnt in teaching and my passion for people within a recruitment career so joined the Hartley Resourcing team. When not at my desk I can be found on my bike trying to keep up with Andrew’s Strava stats.

After training and competing as an international swimmer throughout my childhood and into University it was a natural progression to go into high performance coaching. I started my coaching career off in the American Collegiate system where my passion for working with individual athletes and understanding team dynamics was ignited. I was lucky enough to work with multiple Olympic medalists and hugely successful teams in the U.S. before gaining my first Head Coaching role in Singapore. Over 6 years I built up 2 teams developing national and international swimmers, chairing the largest swimming league in the country and founding a new age group league. After schooling and living abroad for 20 years I decided I wanted to return to my roots and settle back down in the UK. Engaging, motivating and collaborating with athletes and teams were massive passions of mine however it was time to think about a more stable career. I was delighted when Emma gave me a call and asked if I would consider joining Hartley Resourcing. Understanding people and their motivations, working with clients to assess their needs and creating 'buy in' are a few strengths I bring to the team. My love for fitness and travel is still a huge part of my life which I enjoy in my spare time.

Having completed my degree in Business Studies, specialising in Human Resource (HR) Management, I have attained twenty years’ experience in various challenging HR roles. During this time I also successfully completed my postgraduate qualifications in HR and joined the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). My career has led me to work on UK and overseas based consultancy assignments, in both public sector and large multi-national Organisations. This included opportunities for long-term secondments in the Middle East and Greece. Since returning to the UK in 2011, I have completed a number of contract positions in generalist HR roles. During this time, my interest in talent acquisition and recruitment have been further developed. In early 2016, I was delighted at the opportunity to join Hartley Resourcing and move to completing a recruitment focused role on a full-time basis. Outside of work, I enjoy travel, attending antiques auctions and completing furniture restoration projects.
